Announcing the St John’s book launch party for The Garbage Poems by Anna Swanson, with illustrations by April White. Readings, art show, book-themed drinks and snacks!

Created out of words found on trash collected at local swimming holds, these poems use the found language of beer cans and chip bags to explore chronic illness, queerness, swimming, and the deeply political nature of joy. April White’s original paintings will be on display and for sale. Optional post-launch night swim in the ocean!

NQ and NQonline.ca are seeking creative non-fiction, personal essays, articles, fiction, poetry, and visual art and illustration. We are looking for work related to our working theme for the Winter issue, “mythical creatures” and also on general topics related to NL life, culture, and arts.  

Recipes

I have not finished sorting the recipes. There are literally thousands of them. As her memory became less sharp she no longer picked out good recipes with a discerning eye. Instead, she indiscriminately saved every recipe she came across. It was as if by losing herself in that old familiar action, she could somehow be back in the day when she would actually use them.
