You’re Invited: Cocoa with the Quarterly

BY NQ

December 2017

We’re having a party!

The Newfoundland Quarterly would like to invite you and yours to an extra-cozy event in the dining area of Rocket Bakery on Wednesday December 13th from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM.

Cocoa at the Quarterly will be a laid-back family-friendly event. We’ll share some stories from our Canada 150 themed special print edition and our new website NQonline.ca, eat cookies, drink hot chocolate, and enjoy holiday music courtesy of St. John’s favorites, Joanna Barker and High and Lonesome. Readers include Emily Deming, Matthew Hollet, and Katie Vautour.

Admission is free.

This project has been made possible in part by the Government of Canada.

POWER/GRID: Graphic Depictions of War

BY Andrew Loman

“I chose a grid-system rather than free-form because it was a history. To me there’s something very stable about the nine-panel grid and I wanted that feeling for it.” So said the St John’s cartoonist Wallace Ryan, explaining the page design he has chosen for The Narrow Way, a graphic memoir about his grandfather’s experiences as a soldier in World War 1.
