One morning eight years ago, Michelle Porter woke up in a row-house in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. She thinks maybe she’ll stay on a while longer. Michelle is the business manager and web editor with the Newfoundland Quarterly magazine. She is an award-winning journalist and poet, but she’s been writing and publishing in all genres for over a decade. Her latest published piece appeared in The Malahat Review. She is working on a writing project that explores her Métis status and the history of the Red River Métis family line to which she is connected. This Métis woman has called many places home, including: Calgary, St. Albert, Red Deer, Spruce Grove, Penhold, Cultus Lake, Chilliwack, and Saint John, New Brunswick. Michelle holds a BA in Journalism, an MA in Folklore and a PhD in Geography (MUN).
