Nelson White: Tukien (Awaken)

Born and raised in the community of Epwikek, Ktaqmkuk (Flat Bay, NL), Nelson White is a member of the Flat Bat First Nation Band. He studied visual arts at the Bay St George Community College before graduating from NSCAD.

“I’ve often been told that my work, especially in art school, wasn’t ‘Native enough.’ But there’s no one definition of Indigenous. The Indigenous people I know are these cool, interesting, vibrant people that I want to introduce you to. That’s who I paint.”

Costume Banks and Conjured Worlds
